Executive Board Addresses Election Challenge and Transition Obstruction

May 1, 2026 · 8:23 PM

President Adam Fernandez updates members on a challenged election, transition obstacles from former leadership, and the Executive Board’s immediate priorities moving forward.

Good evening Brothers and Sisters,

Today marked the first official day of your newly elected Executive Board—and it did not unfold the way it should have.

Our intention was simple: to be present on the ramp, both AM and PM shifts, introducing ourselves, listening to your concerns, and beginning this new chapter the right way. Instead, we were forced to immediately address serious internal issues that should have already been resolved.

Earlier this week, we were informed that the recent election—where your voices were clear and decisive—has been formally challenged and a rerun has been granted. In response, we held an emergency Executive Board meeting today. We reviewed the full complaint, interviewed the election committee, and consulted with legal counsel to ensure we are following the proper procedures moving forward.

Let me be clear: while we will be filing a formal appeal of the prior board’s decision, the rerun election will still move forward. We will comply with all requirements while continuing to fight to uphold the integrity of your vote.

At the same time, we are dealing with a completely unacceptable situation involving the former president’s refusal to properly transition this Local.

Despite a clearly established April 30th deadline, we have not been provided critical items necessary to operate—this includes login credentials, financial records, bank access, and union property. Because of this failure, your Executive Board has been unable to process payroll, pay bills, or even settle outstanding obligations such as the prior election costs.

This is not a delay. This is an active refusal to transition responsibly.

Let me be equally clear: this behavior is obstructing the operations of this Local and directly impacting our ability to serve you. A formal demand has been issued, and we expect full compliance no later than May 7th. We will take any and all necessary steps to protect this Local and ensure accountability if that deadline is not met.

Despite these challenges, your Executive Board is moving forward.

Upcoming Priorities and Events

  • May 3–6: Vice President Julius and Recording Secretary Vivian will be in Washington, DC for the COPE Committee
  • May 5: Cinco de Mayo event hosted by the Cultural Diversity Committee (L8 Admin Breakroom – more details to follow)
  • May 5: Welcoming new members at new hire training (AM & PM)
  • May 7: Negotiation preparation meeting in Washington, DC with International Representatives and fellow Local Presidents
  • May 10: Mother’s Day event hosted by the Events Committee

We are also actively working to launch a new website from the ground up—special thanks to Alfredo Morales for taking on that major effort.

Additionally, the official Union Representative list will be finalized this weekend and posted in all break rooms so every member knows exactly who to contact for representation.

Brothers and Sisters, your Executive Board is not backing down. We were elected to lead, and that is exactly what we will do—regardless of obstacles placed in our path by those unwilling to let go.

No one individual is bigger than this Local. Not before, not now, not ever.

We will continue to push forward, represent you with strength, and ensure that your voices remain heard.

In Solidarity,

Adam Fernandez
President, TWU Local 571
