Membership Meeting Recap and Bylaw Modernization Update
Adam Fernandez thanks members for attending the first membership meeting and provides an update on the bylaw approval and review process.
Good evening, Brothers and Sisters,
First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to attend today's membership meeting. The turnout was outstanding, and it demonstrated something incredibly important—our membership is engaged, invested, and committed to the future of TWU Local 571.
Today marked a major milestone for our Local. Through your participation and your vote, we took a significant step toward modernizing our bylaws and strengthening the foundation of our union for years to come. These updates are about creating a more effective, transparent, and accountable Local that can better serve both our current membership and future generations of TWU 571 members.
As discussed during the meeting, the next step is to submit the approved bylaws to our International Representative for review. If any revisions are recommended, those specific sections will be brought back to the membership for discussion and another vote. Once that process is complete, the bylaws will move to the International Administrative Committee for final review and approval before implementation.
This process reflects what a strong union is all about—members having a voice, participating in the democratic process, and working together to build something better. The modernization of our bylaws is not just about changing language on paper; it is about ensuring our Local has the tools, structure, and governance necessary to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
I also want to apologize that we were unable to get through every topic and allow for as much open-floor discussion as we would have liked. Moving forward, we are committed to improving the format of our meetings to create even more opportunities for member involvement, questions, suggestions, and discussion.
Finally, I want to thank the Executive Board for their professionalism and dedication throughout the day, as well as the Events Committee for stepping up and helping make today's meeting a success.
The future of this Local is built by the members, and today's turnout proved that TWU Local 571 is moving forward together. Thank you for your continued support, involvement, and commitment to making our union stronger.
