Weekly Update on Summer Bid, Membership Meeting, and Operational Changes
Adam Fernandez provides updates on Six Flags tickets, the summer bid, gate changes, the upcoming membership meeting, and ongoing staffing concerns.
Good morning, Brothers and Sisters,
Weekly Update
Six Flags Tickets
All Six Flags tickets have been distributed by the Events Committee. If you have any issues, please contact them through the TWU Local 571 Events Committee Facebook page. For those unable to attend, we will also be hosting a Membership Appreciation Day at work. Thank you to everyone for your patience, and a special thank you to the Events Committee for putting this event together on short notice.
Summer Bid
The summer bid has been posted and was developed through cooperation between the company and the union. While no bid is ever perfect, I am confident this structure will help address the late operation schedule and reduce mandatory overtime. Your feedback is important, so please share your comments and concerns. Bidding begins June 8, and the new bid takes effect June 27.
Gate Changes
We were informed Saturday that Gate G19 will be transferred to United on July 31. Gate G20 will become a shared city-operated gate, and L1A will reopen. The crews currently assigned to G19 will move to L1A for the remainder of the bid. We are awaiting additional information on any future gate movements.
Membership Meeting
Our first General Membership Meeting is this Tuesday at the Union Office from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM and 3:00 PM–5:00 PM. Members will receive important updates, meet the Executive Board, and have the opportunity to vote on proposed bylaw changes that will modernize our local. Food and refreshments will be provided.
Jacket Distribution
Union jackets will be available at the Union Office (2720 S. River Rd., Suite 210, Des Plaines, IL 60018) on:
- Monday: 9:00 AM–2:00 PM
- Tuesday: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM and 3:00 PM–5:00 PM
We currently have all sizes available except Large.
Veterans Stand Down Event
On Thursday and Friday, members of the Executive Board and Veterans Committee will participate in the Stand Down Veterans Event, providing support and resources to homeless and at-risk veterans. We are honored to continue supporting this important cause in memory of our late brother, Jesus Martinez.
Weekend Staffing
I received many messages regarding weekend staffing concerns. I will be presenting solutions to the company this week to address these ongoing issues. I appreciate everyone who continues to step up and get the job done. However, operational needs can never come before safety, and that message will be delivered directly to upper management.
Thank you for your continued support, and I hope to see many of you at Tuesday's membership meeting.
