Weekly Update: INFOR Restrictions, Winter Bid, Time Clock Fraud, and Annual Picnic
TWU Local 571 provides updates on INFOR implementation, Winter Bid staffing, AI-related time clock fraud, and this weekend's Annual Union Picnic.
I want to take some time this evening to address several important issues and provide everyone with an update. I also want to acknowledge the frustration that many of you are feeling right now.
We understand it, we share it, and we are fighting to make sure our members are not unnecessarily burdened by decisions that affect your schedules, your families, and your ability to work.
INFOR Restrictions
As we prepare for the new INFOR program to go live, the Company has made the decision to implement a CS restriction for the first three days.
Let me be very clear: the Union does not agree with this decision.
We have been fighting against these restrictions from the beginning. At other stations, restrictions were implemented for as long as two weeks surrounding their INFOR implementation. Through discussions and negotiations with the Company, we were able to prevent that from happening here.
However, we are still extremely frustrated that a three-day restriction is being implemented.
Julius and I have continued going back and forth with Local Management regarding this issue. On Monday, we will be participating in a conference call with Local Management and a representative from the INFOR program. We will be addressing not only the CS restriction, but also making sure we understand exactly how this new system is supposed to work and how it will impact our members.
I have already made our position clear to the Company: If the Company is willing to accept overtime and additional staffing during these three days, then our members should also have the ability to CS during those same days.
The process is essentially the same—trades are being made and additional hours are being awarded. We believe our members should have the same opportunity to manage their schedules.
We understand that this restriction affects a lot of people. Some of you may already have travel plans, family commitments, appointments, or other obligations planned for that weekend. We understand how disruptive this can be.
We are going to do everything within our ability to minimize the impact this restriction has on our membership.
But I also want to ask everyone for something in return.
We understand the frustration. We are frustrated too. But going on social media, spreading information that is not accurate, or pointing fingers at the wrong people is not going to solve this problem.
Give your Union the opportunity to do the job you elected us to do.
We will not always get everything we ask for. That is the reality of representing a workforce. But one thing I can promise you is that we will not sit quietly, we will not stop asking questions, and we will not stop fighting for our members.
As soon as we receive additional information from Monday's meeting, we will communicate it to everyone.
Members can also find attendance, scheduling, and CS-related forms and information in our Member Resources.
Winter Bid
The Winter Bid is expected to be posted this weekend.
The projected bidding schedule is:
- August 8: Bid posted
- August 14: CC and PT bidding begins
- August 17: Full-Time bidding begins
- September 5: Winter Bid takes effect
During the development of the Winter Bid, there was significant discussion regarding staffing levels and the movement of employees needed to properly support the deicing operation.
Unfortunately, the Union and the Company were unable to reach an agreement regarding the final bid parameters.
Under Article 13(H)(3) of our Collective Bargaining Agreement, when the Company and the Local Bid Committee cannot agree on the final parameters of the bid, the Company has the authority to make the final decision.
The issue we strongly disagreed with was the decision to reduce bagroom staffing to three employees per pier.
I made our position very clear: three employees is not sufficient staffing for the safe and efficient operation of these piers. We raised both safety and operational concerns and emphasized that staffing below four employees per pier creates unnecessary challenges for the employees expected to perform the work.
I have continued having discussions with the Baggage Director regarding potential solutions, including additional classes, overtime assignments, and utilizing deicers on days when they are not performing deicing operations.
We will continue looking for solutions throughout the bid.
For those of you who bid into the bagroom, this is extremely important:
If you report to a pier and there are two or fewer employees working, contact a Union Representative immediately.
We will be monitoring this closely.
Time Clock Fraud and Artificial Intelligence
Recently, we have seen a number of terminations involving time clock fraud.
I want to make something extremely clear:
Do not use AI or any other technology to manipulate your timecard, alter photographs, or create falsified information for submission to the Company.
Using AI to manipulate a timecard or altering a photograph before submitting it to the Company can result in immediate termination.
We have already seen members face serious consequences because of attempts to manipulate the system.
The Company is watching this extremely closely.
We are giving everyone the opportunity to hear this directly from your Union:
Do not put your job, your livelihood, and your future at risk.
If you have a legitimate issue with your timecard, report it through the proper process and contact a Union Representative if you need assistance.
Annual Union Picnic
Finally, we hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow at the TWU Local 571 Annual Union Picnic.
We know not everyone will be able to attend. For those who cannot make it, the Union has not forgotten about you.
We'll also be hosting TWU Local 571 Membership Appreciation Day in the L8 Admin Break Room from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Popeyes will be provided while supplies last.
This is about our membership. Whether you are able to attend the picnic or not, we want you to know that your Union appreciates everything you do.
Closing
Brothers and Sisters, there are going to be times when we agree with the Company's decisions and times when we strongly disagree. There will be victories, and there will be battles that take longer than we would like.
But through all of it, your Union will continue to fight.
We will continue to challenge decisions that negatively impact our membership. We will continue to raise safety concerns. We will continue to demand answers. And when there is an opportunity to minimize the impact on our members, we will pursue it.
We ask for your patience, your support, and most importantly, your trust in the process.
Stay safe, stay informed, and stay united.
