Member Appreciation Day Update and Six Flags Registration Deadline Information

May 20, 2026 · 5:55 PM

Adam Fernandez provides an update on the Six Flags Member Appreciation Day event, registration deadlines, and plans to recognize members unable to attend.

Good evening everyone,

Just wanted to provide some quick updates.

Six Flags Great America Member Appreciation Day on June 6th

I’ve received numerous messages regarding the event and the way it was rolled out, so I want to clear some things up.

This is the first time this local has ever fully paid for an event like this. Members were never supposed to be charged for appreciation events. The union is not supposed to profit from its members. You already pay union dues, and those dues should be used for union business and member appreciation events like this one.

This was not a secret during the campaign. I made it very clear that one of my goals was to host events where our members and their families would not have to pay out of pocket.

The transition process from the previous administration took far longer than expected, especially when it came to gaining access to the local’s bank account and financial records. That delay left us with very little wiggle room to properly secure and organize the original Six Flags date we had planned for May 30th.

By the time we finally gained access and were able to move forward financially, we had already missed our original window. Thankfully, the Six Flags event manager worked with us and offered June 6th as the next available date. However, they made it very clear that we had to provide a final headcount by Tuesday morning, May 19th, or the contract would be terminated. Therefore, we cannot grant anymore additional tickets request after the deadline.

We did everything we could to make sure members were informed within that limited timeframe. Flyers were posted in every break room and at every time clock, we posted on Facebook, and we physically went break room to break room discussing the event, the deadline, and how to sign up. I understand not everyone uses social media, and I completely understand some members were unable to register in time for various reasons. For those members, I sincerely apologize.

As soon as Great America releases the tickets, the Events Committee will begin distribution.

For those who cannot attend the Great America event on June 6th, we are also putting something together at work that day so all members are recognized and appreciated in some way.
