Pier 28 Transition and Mandatory Overtime Concerns

July 6, 2026 · 5:10 PM

The Executive Board shared updates on the Pier 28 operational transition and ongoing efforts to challenge the use of mandatory overtime.

Good evening, Brothers and Sisters,

I wanted to provide a couple of important updates.

Within the next 7–10 days, Pier 28 will become a shared pier with American Airlines. Envoy will operate the AM shift, while American Airlines will operate the PM shift. Members who bid Pier 28 on the PM shift will be reassigned to other available piers or default assignments based on staffing needs. We are already in discussions with the company to ensure proper staffing as the remaining flights are redistributed across the operation.

I also want to address tonight's 3-hour mandatory overtime. Based on the operation, we have serious concerns that this mandate was unnecessary. I have already contacted upper management requesting an explanation.

TWU Local 571 will continue to challenge what appears to be the ongoing abuse of mandatory overtime. We are exploring every available option under our Collective Bargaining Agreement and will continue holding the company accountable to ensure mandatory overtime is used only when truly necessary—not as a substitute for proper staffing.

We will continue to keep everyone updated as we receive more information.
